Project Summary:

The Canadian scallop fishery is MSC accredited and sustainably managed. However, the fishery faces challenges and must keep progressing in order to retain its right to fish and market access. Groundfish (cod/winter skate & Yellow-tailed Flounder) are bycatch species for the Canadian scallop fleet and cause a choke issue that is becoming more acute with time. Clearwater is investigating the impact of Pisces lights on bycatch. Comparative trawls are conducted with and without Pisces to understand how artificial light influences the behaviour of fish and subsequently bycatch.
